Visit to My Doctor

It's usually a good idea to check with the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and then check with your doctor before you travel to make sure you are up-to-date on various vaccines.  My doctor recommended an up-date for Typhoid Fever so, I took care of that yesterday.

This map shows areas of risk for both Hepatitis A and Typhoid Fever around the world.

Many people are also concerned about the spread of the Zika virus for which we do not yet have a vaccine.  Health is, indeed, a global issue and there are many political and ethical considerations that can affect how we address those topics as global citizens.  The greatest concern for the Zika virus is among pregnant women which means birth control might play an important role in controlling the spread of the virus until a vaccine is developed.  But, there are many different cultural perspectives concerning birth control.  So, how do we, global citizens, with these different perspectives begin a productive, culturally sensitive discussion on this topic?
